I don’t know why we insist on learning things the hard way, even when we know better. (Or is it just me? 🤦🏼♀️)
A few weeks back, I wrote about the expression, “nothing changes if nothing changes.”
It’s not that I’m hung up on the idea but rather that variations on this theme are something life seems to be illuminating for me on the regular lately.
When it comes to expected outcomes, be they personal, professional—or desired changes, in ourselves, in others—our tolerance fluctuates wildly depending on several variables.
But there’s one thing that remains constant, and that’s the one thing we so often overlook:
The truth.
Newsflash:
Sometimes, accepting the truth about someone or something is hard. Especially if we’re hoping to arrive at a different truth.
But there’s a point in our tolerance of things as we await a change that it becomes detrimental to us.
During those times, we could benefit from remembering that there are things we can do (probably well more than we realize) to separate ourselves from those things that unnecessarily/needlessly/negatively impact our life experience.
We don’t have to hang in there and bear adverse conditions, waiting for something that will most likely never come.
In fact, doing so seems silly, no?
For me, this song serves as a reminder that it’s important to keep hopes and dreams alive. To honor our truths. To stop chugging the overly salty seawater. And to keep shining bright—the darker it gets, the more we need our collective light.
I leave you with three key points that both the saying and the song call to mind for me:
Your worth is what it is. And so too is your value. No need to prove it every day, in every way.
Trust your gut. Be guided by your inner truth and inner light, without needing exhaustive reinforcement or external approval.
Once a point is proven, there is no benefit to the point being proven even more. And life’s too short to waste time waiting for the point to change. Spoiler alert: it won’t.
Don’t like what you see?
Walk away.
Too salty?
Stop drinking.
We are under no obligation to do anything. Life is our choice to make.
Have a great week.
